WELCOME TO THE OPUS II PROJECT

Centralized in the Philadelphia/Delaware County area, the Junior company of Opus I Contemporary was designed to heighten the appreciation of the arts and expose the young dance community to the world of company dance.  Most young dancers are provided the luxury of a dance classes at studios.  Some schools provide interim dance programs to introduce children to the art of dance.  The Opus II Project's goal is to be able to provide students of dance a more in depth view into the genre of concert contemporary dance.  There are limitations for a young dancer. This program will  provide opportunities to expand and appeal to the young aspiring dancer. This program will provide them with the needed exposure for their future dance goals as well as give the dancer an informative overview of concert dance that they can later make sound decisions off of.

O2 (as we affectionately call the junior company) offers training and performance opportunities both as a junior company as well as integrated into the Opus I company.  This offers the young dancer to work along side seasoned professionals in the industry, strive to develop their technique, professionalism, and understanding of the story telling movement.

Auditions are held annually in May, and the O2 season runs weekly, every Sunday for a full 4-8 hour day from January through performance concert in May/June.  The Directors also offer a monthly workshop during the months of September through December during off normal dance season committments.  O2 is an addition to the dancers regular classes and training obtained at their home studios.

The Directors Scholarship is awarded annual during auditions.  Opus I Contemporary is committed to providing teens the experience of Company dance.  This experience encourages the young dancer to strive to improve their technique, performance quality in addition to expanding their experiences to dance side by side with professional contemporary dancers, teachers, master work shop choreographers, and talent in their local area.  By providing this opportunity Opus I Contemporary hopes to expand the dancer’s appreciation for the variety of techniques, styles and artistic and creative expressions around them.
